Interesting facts about the month of June
The month of June is the sixth month of the year and the second of four months that have 30 days (the others are April, September, and November). In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the first month of summer and contains the summer solstice, the longest day (i.e. the day with the most daylight hours) and the shortest night of the year, which occurs between June 20 and June 22 (the date and local time differ from place to place depending on the year and a location's time zone). June's name derives from Juno, wife of Jupiter in Roman mythology, goddess of marriage and protector of Rome, after whom the Romans called June Iunius.
- The zodiac signs for June are Gemini (until about June 21*) and Cancer (from about June 22*).
- No other month of the current calendar year begins with the same day of the week as June. February of the following year, however, begins with the same day of the week as June of the current year.
- June is a popular girls' name.
- In 2018 June starts on a Friday and ends on a Saturday.
