Interesting facts about the month of September
The month of September is the ninth month of the year and the third of four months that have 30 days (the others are April, June, and November). In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the first month of fall and contains the autumn equinox (one of the two days of the year when day and night are of approximately equal length) which occurs between September 22 and 24 and marks the astronomical beginning of fall (the autumn equinox occurs at the same moment in time all over the world, but the date and local time differ from place to place depending on a location's time zone). September's name is derived from the Latin word septem (seven) because September was originally the seventh month of the year in the Roman calendar.
- The zodiac signs for September are Virgo (until about September 23*) and Libra (from about September 24*).
- September always begins with the same day of the week as December.
- Early September (Labor Day) typically marks the end of the summer vacation season that starts in late May (on Memorial Day weekend).
