International Workers' Day is a celebration of workers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labor movement and occurs every year on May 1.

Also known as - and synonymous with - Labour Day, it is a public holiday in more than 80 countries around the world, though not in most English-speaking countries: the United States and Canada celebrate Labor Day (spelled Labour Day in Canada) on the first Monday of September, in Australia the date of the Labour Day public holiday varies considerably between the various states and territories (first or second Monday in March, May, and October), and the UK has a bank holiday on the first Monday in May, blandly named Early May bank holiday.

International Workers' Day also falls on the same day as May Day, an ancient pagan festival of spring, rebirth and fertility in many European countries.
