A split year calendar cuts the year in the middle rather than at the end. These run July through June, so they show the second half of 2021 and the first half of 2022 on one sheet, with the change of calendar year falling in the middle instead of at the edge. That is the whole point of the format: if the twelve months you care about straddle New Year, a January-to-December calendar splits them across two sheets and a split year calendar does not.
July to June is a common span in the US. It is the fiscal year used by most state and local governments, by a great many nonprofits and school districts, and by plenty of membership organizations, clubs and sports leagues whose season runs across the winter. It is also the Australian financial year, which is why these sheets get used well outside the US as well.
The two calendar years are color-coded throughout: the 2021 months carry a green heading and the 2022 months a blue one. On a calendar built around a mid-year boundary that is not decoration - it is the fastest way to see which side of New Year a date falls on, and it makes the twelve months read as one span rather than two halves stuck together.
The days are left blank, because the dates that matter are yours. What is already on them is the part that does not vary: every date, every weekday and every US federal holiday for 2021-2022, shown on the day it is actually observed, so all you have to add is what is specific to your year.
How much you need to write in each day decides which layout to take. One page puts the whole split year in front of you at once, two pages give you six months per sheet, and four pages devote a quarter to each sheet with the largest day boxes of the set. Every one of those comes in both landscape and portrait, in classic grid, linear and rolling arrangements, with Saturdays shaded pale yellow, Sundays pale orange and federal holidays printed in red on pale pink, so working days stand out from the rest. Browse the templates below and choose the layout that fits how you want to map out 2021/22.

Each calendar is a .pdf file that opens in any browser or PDF reader on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android, so there is nothing to install and nothing to set up. The layout is fixed and already sized for US Letter paper, which means the sheet you see on screen is exactly what comes out of the printer, and it looks the same for everyone you send it to. If you would rather type your dates in than write them, the same 2021/22 split year calendar is available as an editable version for Excel and Google Sheets or as a Word and Google Docs version.Who uses a July to June calendar
- State and local government, and nonprofits
July 1 to June 30 is the fiscal year for most US states, for a large share of counties, cities and school districts, and for many nonprofits. Budget cycles, grant periods, board meetings, audit dates and reporting deadlines all sit on one sheet instead of being cut in half by January. - Clubs, societies and sports leagues
Any season that runs across the winter fits a split year better than a calendar year: fixtures, training blocks, membership renewals, subscription years, committee terms and the annual general meeting. - Businesses on a mid-year financial year
Australian companies run July to June, and plenty of US businesses choose it too. Quarter ends, forecasting rounds, appraisal cycles, contract renewals and stocktakes all land where you can see them. - Anyone planning across New Year
A summer-to-summer view suits long projects, construction and renovation schedules, application and admissions cycles, secondments, sabbaticals and extended travel, where a January-to-December sheet would split the work across two calendars. - Home and family
Free to print for the fridge or a home office, with vacations, term dates, renewals and appointments visible across the whole span rather than stopping at December 31.
What to add to your 2021/22 split year calendar
The days are left blank because the dates that matter are your own. Once the sheet is in front of you, these are the entries that usually go on first:- The fixed points of the year
The start and end of your own year, quarter boundaries, and the closures and shutdown periods around them. - Money and reporting
Budget submission and approval dates, grant application and reporting deadlines, audit windows, invoicing and payroll runs, and year-end close. - People
Vacation and leave, appraisal and review cycles, contract and membership renewals, recruitment rounds and training dates. - Deadlines and milestones
Project phases, delivery dates, application and admissions deadlines, launches and go-live dates. - Everything else the year runs on
Board and committee meetings, the annual general meeting, fixtures and events, conferences and the days the office is closed.

half-year split calendar, landscape, 2 pages
The half-year calendar with room to writeThe same July-to-June span split across two landscape sheets, six months to each: July to December on the first, January to June on the second. Pinned up together they still give you the whole span on the wall, and the split falls neatly on the turn of the calendar year.

linear split year timeline, landscape, 1 page
The linear split year timelineThe days run left to right in one continuous line with the month names down the left side, so the year reads as a timeline rather than a grid. That makes duration visible in a way a month grid never manages: the length of a project phase, the gap between a submission and a decision, the run of weeks to a deadline. A favorite for project and budget planning across the turn of the year.

year at a glance, landscape, 1 page
The year-at-a-glance split calendarTwelve month blocks across a single landscape page, July through June, in the familiar layout everyone can read without being shown how. This is a reference calendar rather than a planning one: you use it to check which week a date falls in, or how many weeks are left before a deadline, not to write the whole year into. A federal holidays table runs across the foot of the sheet, so every holiday of the span is named and dated in one place. Small enough to hand out or file inside the cover of a folder.
